Legislative Alerts

The 34th Alaska Legislature (2025-2026) is currently in its 2nd regular session. We encourage homeschoolers to get involved in the political process and remember to exercise your right to vote.

During the active legislative session, we watch for the introduction of new legislation that affects homeschoolers. As we identify relevant bills, we typically ask HSLDA to review the bills and advise whether APHEA should oppose or support. As relevant bills are introduced, we closely monitor them. Such bills can move quickly through the legislative process and we may not have the ability to update home educators during the legislative session. HSLDA will not send an e-lert out for home educators to contact their legislators unless APHEA first approves. HSLDA provides carefully scripted messages in such e-lerts to minimize well-meaning parents calling legislators but having incomplete information. We try to provide a legislative recap at the end of the year via a newsletter.

Types of bills that APHEA watches for:
+ Bills that lower or increase compulsory age
+ Bills that add testing or curriculum requirements to home education
+ Bills that affect parental rights
+ Educational Savings Account Bills
+ Equal Access (“Tim Tebow”) Bills
